Today's song is...
The World's Address
Oh, the world play. This is a really good example of what I love about Linnell's writing. The whole song is built around a central pun and each line just builds on it more. I love the lyric "Life's parade of fashion just leaves me depressed, under every garment I can see the world's address." But I also find the song kind of sad for some reason. And I'm rather curious why Flans ended up singing it.

I've always wondered why Flans ended up singing it too, but it fits, I think, because the song seems a little too bitter for Linnell. (Or maybe it just seems that way because Flans is singing it. Post hoc ergo propter hoc or whatever.)
ReplyDeleteLinnell + wordplay = <3
ReplyDeleteI sort of like when they switch vocals/lyrics sometimes. I think it's sort of sweet. If I'm allowed to say that without a fangirly connotation.
Oh, of all the songs to come up now! (I can't really explain that statement. I just felt the need to say it. It's not any big deal, I've just been thinking of the song a lot lately for a couple of different reasons, one of which you will hopefully understand in the near future. Oh look, I sort of just explained it. Good grief. I sound like a complete loon. Must stop writing in this parenthetical insert now.)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I really like this one. And it's one of the few I really like that I haven't actually looked up the lyrics on, so somehow I think I missed the pun. I realized of the pun, of course, but I didn't realize it was meant/written that way, if that makes ANY sense at all. So I'm quite amused by that, now. :}
It IS a bit sad. And I agree with Megan on how it sort of fits.
Ah, the rambling. Sorry I do that so often. Sometimes wish I could verbalize my thoughts as well as the two of you. Woohoo for bloggers, though! :)
And, as I'm sure you've read several times because I've written it several times, I do prefer the Joshua Fried remix of this song to the original. But I'm pretty sure that's mainly because that IS the original to me. It was the first version I heard (via MySpace music) and I really liked it. Still do. :)
ReplyDelete*In my first comment, that's obviously supposed to say "I realized the pun", not "I realized of the pun". Good green fish.
ReplyDelete(I'm listening to this song right now, by the way. Original version.) :]
Jamie, when I am hitting to Random Page button on the wiki to choose the Song of the Day, I consider any version of a song that comes up to count as that song for selection purposes. So for example, I frequently come up with the demo version or a remix or something but I've decided not to count every version of a song as a separate song. But it should please you to know, that it was actually the page for the Joshua Fried Remix of this song that led to it's selection.
ReplyDelete:) Well that's a fun fact!
ReplyDelete(haha, that sounds sarcastic, but I promise it's not supposed to be. I'm more floopy than usual today. I genuinely thank you for sharing that tidbit.) :)
