GISHWHES #124 - Miss Jean Louise - Daydream Believer

It is a little known fact that the elusive Miss Jean Louise was actually the inspiration behind the hit song Daydream Believer.

In 1967, MJL was attending a party in California at the house of John Stewart of the Kingston Trio. She and a girlfriend weaseled their way in the door on the pretext of being cousins of a record exec's son. As tends to happen with parties, this one ran into the wee hours of the morning. After hours of reveling, MJL dozed off on a sofa in a corner of the house where several well known folk musicians were having a quiet sing along.

The next morning, MJL woke with a start when someone tripped over a coffee table on the way to the bathroom. She immediately panicked upon realizing that it was after 10am and she was late for work. This prompted the unfortunate coffee table victim to utter the immortal line, "cheer up sleepy Jean," in an attempt to convince her to calm down. John Stewart was passing by the living room at just that moment and caught the turn of phrase. It jostled around in his head for a while and later that night, when he sat down with his guitar, "cheer up sleepy Jean" formed the beginning of what would eventually become Daydream Believer. A short while later, Stewart was approached for songs for the Monkees at another party and the rest is history!

Jump for Joy! Second Danny Weinkauf Album Available for Pre-Order!

Hey all! Bet you thought I fell off the planet. But nothing brings me racing back to the blog-o-sphere faster than an new album announcement from one of my favorite peeps!

That's right, it is once again time to wave my Red Pants Team banner high! That incomparable, high-flying, red-pants-stylin', kindie rock dynamo Danny Weinkauf has just launch a PledgeMusic drive for his second album with his very own Red Pants Band.

http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/dannyweinkauf

There are some great perks if you pre-order like signed CDs, t-shirts, even your very own song! I've gotten a sneak peak at some of the tracks played live at concerts over the last year and they are super-tastic (see I had to make up a word just to describe them). I promise, if you liked No School Today, you are going to love this album.

So what are you waiting for? Jump up and join the parade!

P.S. Don't miss the questionable safety of playing guitar while bouncing on a trampoline in the pledge video :-)

Happy Birthday Flansy!

Hey everybody, it's Flans Day! Internationally recognized holiday, celebrated by TMBG fans world-wide, to honor the occasion of the birth of that most esteemed rock 'n' roll "giant", John Flansburgh!

This looks to be a banner year for Flansburgh, with several truly stellar Flans-penned tunes already released on Glean and dozens more to come. In my own esteem, Flans has achieved the pinnacle of success this year, not only in being the composer of my favorite song on the new album, but also in having written the majority of my favorite songs on the album. He has absolutely outdone himself and I can't wait to see what's still in store.

Please join me in a hearty "hip-hip-hurray" and "happy birthday" for Mr. Flansburgh, and celebrate by tuning into Conan tonight to watch the band perform Answer!

Happy Birthday, Flans!!!
