Song of the Day - Day 32

Today's song is...

The Guitar

Believe it or not, I used to not care for this song overly much. It has definitely grown on me. A lot. Especially live. The live version is one of my favorite things ever. There is nothing like being in a crowd of people while this song is being played. The energy is through the roof.

I am still kind of so-so on the recorded version. I do like Laura Cantrell's voice. It adds a nice quality to the song. And, I am sorry to say, I think this is one of my least favorite videos. I just can't deal with the length of Linnell's hair. Very superficial of me but there it is.

But, oh my god, the live version! Just don't get me started on the waving.

If I remember later I'll add in one of the videos with one of Danny's kick ass bass solo's in it. Not to be missed.

  1. Rebecca complains about the "Apollo 18 hair" too. Very superficial :-) . The song, as simple as it is, is a wonderfully clean scaffold to hang all sorts of fun soloistic experimentation off of. I love what they did with it in the album version, and I love getting to hear what they do with it each time live.

  2. Linnell's had worse hair phases than the Apollo 18 one. I like his Apollo 18 hair!

I'm a fan of this song live more than on the album. But, as you'd said, Laura Cantrell has a lovely voice.

  3. Yes, Apollo 18 hair: boo!

I think I feel pretty much exactly as you do about this song, Kelly -- luke warm in general, but really love it live. It is among my 4-year-old's favorite songs, however, and it's awfully cute to hear him sing it.

  4. I despise the Apollo 18 era Linnell hair, but this is my absolute favorite song to hear live. I think I'm one of the few people who really loves the album version, too. I bought the European 12" version just so I could hear it on vinyl, which I think is a testament to how much I adore the song.
