Song of the Day - Day 78

Today's song is...

Cyclops Rock

One of the more hard rockin' songs. This has never been a particular favorite of mine but I do enjoy that this is one of the earliest songs I know of that Dan and Danny helped write. The guitar solo in the middle is entirely of their creation and I according to one interview with Flans, he brought Danny in to help him concoct the guitar riffs that would become the backbone of the song.

  1. Man do I dig this song. I want to cover this song. I want to learn to play guitar, form a band, cover this song, break up, and go on to pursue solo projects. To me, They'mb Giants are essentially a punk band who are so goddamn punk that they can do the theme for Higglytown Heros and it'll only serve to cement their punk cred. I'm stuck in snow traffic outside of New York (rt. 3 heading to the Lincoln Tunnel)! Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!

  2. I used to not like this song. I don't know why. And then I thought it was an okay song, but still not a favorite.

I was driving/listening to Mink Car recently and realized how cool it was. Sort of... not TMBG-like, musically, I think? I don't know.

Still not a favorite. But totally a cool song.

  3. I always forget about this song, and then it comes up on shuffle and I hear the bells and get all excited about it. (And jpreale, I would totally buy your band's EP on eBay after the breakup.)

  4. Interesting back-story I'd never heard. :)
Haha, and I just want to say again how much I enjoy your blog. It's splendid simply for reading the entries as well as for a sort of forum outside of THE forum. THE forum is great, but sort of inactive lately. And your entries mix things up a bit, so it's like two forums for the price of one. Or something. Anyway, yay!
As for my thoughts on this song, it's kind of one of those I forget about sometimes, too, and even though I like it, I have to be in a certain mood to want to listen to it most of the time. It's really fun to sing along with if you're kind of in a hysterical and/or annoyed and/or loud sort of mood. I can't really explain what I mean, but there's an attempt, at least. Also, I really like Cerys Matthews' voice in the bridge. :)
