Song of the Day - Day 83

Today's song is...

Cells

"A cell knows what it has to do to grow into a some moss or a shrew, algae or a kangaroo, bug or a sunflower, Dwight David Eisenhower"

That is one of my very favorite lines in the repertoire. The inclusion of Eisenhower just makes the whole thing. I was so exited to play this for people when it came out just because I was so sure that line was gold. Kudos, Mr. Linnell. Job well done.

  1. Good song, with an odd shape to it. It does the tight rock thing a couple of times near the beginning, but the parts about DNA are relatively gentle, and get moreso as the song goes on. It sorta sounds like it's heading to a Statue Got Me High ending until it kicks in just a bit for the last few seconds.

  2. Yay -- a HCS song. I love biology and I love this song. And I love my husband for pointing out its unusual structure. I'd never really noticed before what an odd structure it has -- no clear refrains and verses, no bridge. It flows beautifully all the same. Brilliantly unique. Plus I love hearing my kids singing about a double helix.

  3. :) This is one of those I kind of overlooked when I first started listening to Here Comes Science, mostly because I was so excited about I Am A Paleontologist, Meet The Elements, What Is A Shooting Star?, etc. But I let it play through one day while I was getting ready for bed and realized how much I really like this one. I'm going to have to listen to it again. It's been a while.
