Song of the Day - Day 7

Still a slightly obscure B-side but getting better.

Today's song is...

Become A Robot

This amuses me, as many things do. I've always enjoyed the humor of the "clang, clang, clang, whoops, too late" line. And then it gets kind of weird as many very early TMBG songs are wont to do.

  1. A while back, a friend of mine gave me mp3s of the 1985 Demo Tape. I can tell you it's been just over two years since I first heard this song.

I think it's kind of a brilliant little piece. It has humor, but it's kind of about conformity, to my interpretation. But that's because I read into things far too much.

And the line "Clang, clang, whoops, too late" is wonderful, I agree.

  2. Yayy! I like this one a lot! :) And I agree with pretty much everything you and Erin said about it. I think the first time I heard it was when it happened to play when I was listening to Then (disc 2) waiting at a railroad crossing for a train to pass one night, and its sound fit quite nicely with that experience. :) I happened to have my camera and took a short video. The quality is poor, but you can see what I mean, I think.

  3. (I don't know if you can even see that, because it wouldn't let me embed the video. But anyway. Who cares? Point is, I like the song.) :]

  4. This song is one of those old songs that I never knew back in the day (I had all the albums but wasn't fan enough back then to seek out any B sides and rarities). So this is a relatively "new" old song for me. I don't have particular feelings about it either way -- not a favorite, not one I'm inclined to skip. But discovering all these somewhat rare old songs during the past year or so has felt to me much as I felt listening to new TMBG songs back in the 80's. Always a quirky and unexpected adventure.

Jamie, I was unable to view the video, but I think it's great that you took one. :-)

  5. I know it's not ACTUALLY a B-side. That's just my generic term for all the extra miscellaneous tracks out there in the world. I suppose rarity is a better term for it. Though technically it is on Side B of the Demo Tape :-P

Jamie, I could see your video, but I think that's because we're friends on Facebook. I like how the lights from the train crossing seem to correspond to the beats of the song.
