Song of the Day - Day 2

And your They Might Be Giants song of the day is...

It's Not My Birthday

Last year, the day before my birthday my boyfriend posted a comment of my Facebook page that just said "lunge". I didn't get it at first, but apparently since it wasn't yet my birthday he was lunging out at me. Haha.

This is one of a very few songs that I heard live a couple of times at some of the very first shows I saw (back when I didn't know the material well enough to appreciate them) and have never heard again. I'd really like to. This is also one of my go-to birthday post songs for my friends.

  1. I think this was one of my first favorite songs, before I was deeply into the band. My first show was on Linnell's 50th birthday and I was semi-devastated that they didn't play it.

  2. I think this was also one of my first favorites. I remember having it on my little mp3 player (before I realized iPods were considerably superior), and being quite attracted to the song. I don't understand why. I think it was among the first few TMBG songs I learned on guitar as well.

  3. I love this song. I don't really know what else to add..

  4. "I love this song" is a perfectly sufficient statement :-)

  5. Agreed on this one being a fave. My lawn does occasionally get wet in real life, but I am usually not so unkind as to withholdnmy own consent.

  6. By the way, the question keeps coming up in my mind as to whether you meant this Song Of The Day thing as a share-your-personal-experience-and/or-interpretation-of-this-song type thing AS WELL AS a discussion of anything else to do with the song (like what is being discussed so far -- less heavy stuff, i.e. when you first heard it, whether you love it or not, etc.) or if you would rather leave that sort of thing alone because it gets too personal and people may argue over what it means.

That is one confusing statement I just made. I hope it makes a tiny bit of sense..

Anyway, I don't even know what I'd do with whatever answer you happen to give, I'm just curious.

    :]

  7. Jamie, you can discuss whatever happens to come to your mind. You can absolutely get into personal experiences or interpretations or whatever you want. I figured I'd just post the songs and see where it went from there. I imagine it will be an evolving concept and will probably vary widely depending on the song.

  8. Okay, that's what I figured, but I wasn't sure. Like I said, I don't even know that I will ever get into any of them that deeply in a comment here, but it's good information to have. :)
