Song Of The Day - Day 211

Today's song is...

Turtle Songs Of North America

One of my absolute, all-time favorite pieces of ridiculousness to come out of this band. It's just so completely random and parodies a television nature program I have very fond memories of from childhood.  I think the inside of Linnell's head must be a very fun place to be if it produces things like this. Every time I turn on my Clock Radio, it always seems to want to play this track (and not much else). It's like it knows I just need to laugh one more time at a turtle loosing consciousness while gasping in the Fibonacci sequence.

  1. I love, and have always loved, John Linnell's prose. And, well, Turtle Songs is just a small example of the inspired and creative things to come out of John Linnell's mind. I remember hearing this on one of the podcasts on my birthday and thinking, "God, this is hilarious and amazing." Deadpan at its best passes for serious talk, and I think this is one of those times.

Now before I jumble any more sentences, I'm going to go back to my Scrabble game.

  2. Yup, turned on Clock Radio, and whaddya know, there it was, the second track, and fifth track, and eighth, and... (they were also playing Contrecoup (podcast edition) and Why Did You Grow A Beard). Cute stuff, but if you like thought provoking and humorous audio collages, I'll once again plug Negativland as the preeminent practitioners of the style: http://vimeo.com/2128575

  3. Yes, there was a phase in my regular Clock Radio listening days when I would hear this one over and over. There was no way around it. And now it is apparently one of just 3 songs that play on that band of my Clock Radio. I wonder if CR is trying to tell us something. About turtles. Anyway, this piece is definitely a departure for TMBG. And ridiculous.
