  1. Am I /really/ the only one to vote Maybe I Know over The Mesopotamians?!

    I can't believe this.

  3. I think it has more to do with Maybe I Know being a cover. Covers do not seem to be fairing well in this competition.

  4. yeah, it seems so weird to vote for covers. gotta go with Maybe I Know though because it's just so off the hook and more my style.

  5. The Mesopotamians didn't really register with me at first. It wasn't until a year later that it really grabbed me. My wife was out of town and I didn't really know anyone else in Massachusetts. I was out in Revere, where the transit is (at least, was at that time) terrible. I didn't really know anyone in town, so I was just shuffling between work and home. So, I was walking home from work, trying to avoid the ice that doesn't get moved ANYWHERE out in the boonies where I was, trying to protect myself from the most brutal cold I'd ever experienced. (I'm from Arkansas.) The song came up on my iPod and struck me as the most beautiful thing I'd ever heard, and I felt foolish for never noticing it before. I just completely disappeared from where I was and wrapped myself entirely in the song. I hadn't really listened to The Else before, but it suddenly became one of my favorites. Maybe I just needed something to cling to, I don't know. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it the first time and so it just waited there for me to rediscover it. Whatever the reason, that album - and that song in particular - is up there among my favorites.

I DO like Maybe I Know, though. The wax cylinder stuff is awesome. But I experienced a profound...something. Don't even know what it was. But it was while listening that song.
    And so it wins.

Plus, hey. Beatles jokes. Can't top that.

  6. Stories like these are my favorite kind of stories, Garrett. The songs you didn't know you loved until one day....bam. The Mesopotamians was the song that set me on the path to being the fan I am today. And even though I'll admit, I've gotten a little tired of it after hearing it live 40 some odd times, it still holds a very near and dear place in my heart.
