Today's song is...
Damn Good Times
This is what probably should have been #200 but 202 is nice too. Pretty sure I've mentioned this before, but the first time I consciously heard this song I was pretty sure I had heard it before somewhere and I never have figured out where that was. It has remained one of my favorites ever since though, and is my very favorite Flans song.
One of the main factors in a song getting to the top of my favorites list, is loving both the music and the lyrics. Too often one or the other will appeal to me, but this is one of the cases where I adore both. I remember Gary telling me very early on that Flans wrote the song about a woman on a cell phone in a store and that is what I have always chosen to believe. But there is also a little part of me every time, that secretly believes it's about me. I am by no means a natural dancer (too self conscious) but I always feel like the "she's got ants in her pants and she's gonna dance" line pretty accurately describes me at shows.
Every time Dan starts up that guitar riff, it instantly puts a smile on my face. There is something glorious about singing "DAMN" really loudly with him and Linnell. And oh boy do I love the blazing guitar solo at the end. Gotta love a song where the guitar player and the drummer get writing credits just for the kick ass finale.
I really hope Flans is true to his word and doesn't chicken out for the kiddies and they play this on Saturday. Cause this live is one of the things I have missed most.

Maybe for the kiddies they'll switch it up to "darn good times" and "acts like Lindsay Lohan when she turned 21". Such a good song, but I'm always left wanting one (or two) recaps of the chorus at the very very end.
ReplyDeleteThis song is just fun. It's like what a live show feels like.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory of this was at the October 16th evening show, I think Flans' guitar string broke or something and Dan and Danny just played the opening riff repeatedly. Linnell stepped back from his keyboard and just folded his arms and waited. All while Dan and Danny continued to play the repetitious opening two measures or so.
