Today's song is...
Number Three
I really appreciate the humor of this song being the third song on the album. It is little things like this that make me love these guys. This is a song I love as a whole package. Clever lyrics, clever concept, great guitar and sax and drum machine. This is what I think of as a quintessential TMBG song.

I'm a big fan of the sax loop. I always underestimate The Pink Album. The Pink Album has a sort of charm to it as a whole, but I think Number Three is the most charming of the songs.
ReplyDeleteCatchy song for sure. And ahh, the humor! Possibly the thing that most set TMBG apart from the other bands I enjoyed back in the 80's was the number of songs they put on their albums -- 19 songs on their debut album when other artists rarely hit 12. Even in 1986, when all I knew of TMBG was the pink album, the irony of Number Three was clear to me: the most prolific of artists lamenting that they could barely write three songs. And today it's just all the funnier. I think they should write a sequel called Number Three Thousand.
