Song of the Day - Day 344

Today's song is...

Number Three

I really appreciate the humor of this song being the third song on the album. It is little things like this that make me love these guys. This is a song I love as a whole package. Clever lyrics, clever concept, great guitar and sax and drum machine. This is what I think of as a quintessential TMBG song.

  1. I'm a big fan of the sax loop. I always underestimate The Pink Album. The Pink Album has a sort of charm to it as a whole, but I think Number Three is the most charming of the songs.

  2. Catchy song for sure. And ahh, the humor! Possibly the thing that most set TMBG apart from the other bands I enjoyed back in the 80's was the number of songs they put on their albums -- 19 songs on their debut album when other artists rarely hit 12. Even in 1986, when all I knew of TMBG was the pink album, the irony of Number Three was clear to me: the most prolific of artists lamenting that they could barely write three songs. And today it's just all the funnier. I think they should write a sequel called Number Three Thousand.
