Your writing abilities are superb, as usual, and there's such an easy flow and detail to your recaps that I feel as though I am right there with you at the concert while I'm reading. And that ending! I honestly had tears in my eyes as I read it. Magnificent entry! I thought Linnell had kept playing the right part and Flans didn't sing it, and the audience was singing along with the correct part of the song until Flans started talking. I really hope some video of it surfaces eventually so we can see what really happened.Blue Canaryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01170878246601658562noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2569946432616055080.post-41950774742984350982015-01-27T20:25:35.180-05:002015-01-27T20:25:35.180-05:00Already talked to you about these things, but I...Already talked to you about these things, but I'll leave them as notes!

- When Flansburgh joked about tall people of tremendous height in the crowd all standing at the side, I I thought it was an absurdist joke referring to people in the side standing sections as being of "tremendous height", because they were on a raised platform.

- Flansburgh introduced Linnell's contrabass clarinet as being named "ISIS", to much hilarity.

- Flansburgh started the Final Cut Pro jokes by stating how glad he was to be near Mikey's Hook-Up, an electronics store one block over on North 6th. Cracked me up because it's a one-off store I've seen many times while walking to MHoW, and he both knew about it and managed to remember its name.

- As for the "How Can I Sing Like a Girl?" mishap, which was pretty drawn out, I hope we can find a recording of it to recall exactly what happened. As best as I can recall, Linnell actually started off the correct section on accordion ("I want to raise my freak flag"), and hinted it at Flansurgh by singing the harmony part ("higher and") quietly during the interruption, but Flansburgh told him to start at the watchtower verse.

Anyway, spectacular show - one of the best in recent memory. Thanks for the thorough write-up, as always!Jon Uleishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02875167671623050416noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2569946432616055080.post-44844229724046123902014-12-04T08:45:48.460-05:002014-12-04T08:45:48.460-05:00Kelly,

It's in my top five TMBG songs, and so good to hear it again. :) The song choice this go around did fit the Fan Appreciation moniker solidly.. lots of good 'from the vault' cuts, chosen for with-the-horns value it seems. Rochester people can be super rude - as you found out during the opening act. I was equally as pissed. And there was dancing and moshing back where my niece & I were - very drunk people. Super annoying. But the show was great otherwise - and it was my first one! :)

Nice to meet you too! It was clear that the authors sort of just wanted to talk about geek culture (for a third of the book??)...they barely bothered to relate it back to TMBG at all. And the "flooding" concept as they applied it to nerd interests and childhood was so vague...it could be applied the same way to almost any other topic that exists in the world with equal or greater efficacy. The parts that actually talked about John & John's experience growing up + in the music business starting out I enjoyed, as well as some of the analysis of the songs, but the overly academic way they wrote about the music and brought it back to "flooding" turned me off. Ah well.valerie2776https://www.blogger.com/profile/04316391751323426716noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2569946432616055080.post-40542083550226081862013-12-30T16:51:46.091-05:002013-12-30T16:51:46.091-05:00Thank you for sharing your travels with us!!
